Legislated by the State and through its Board of Directors, MHSD is responsible for the operation and management of community-based programs and services for the parishes of Orleans, St.
Bernard, and Plaquemines.
In mid-2016, Dr.
Rochelle Head-Dunham was appointed the Executive Director of Metropolitan Human Services District.
Under the executive leadership of Dr.
Dunham, MHSD established a new district mission and philosophy, implemented the FY2017 MHSD strategic plan, and engaged in district restructuring.
Mission To ensure person-centered supports and services are available and provided to eligible individuals with mental illness, addictive disorders and intellectual/developmental disabilities in Orleans, Plaquemines and St.
Bernard parishes.
Vision Expanding Our Core, Enhancing Our Partnerships Are you looking for a fulfilling and rewarding career working in jails to reduce recidivism? We are seeking a motivated contractor with a lived experience to join our team as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) contractor.
Responsibilities:
Assists in coordination and development of effective survival skills for justice involved individuals Assists persons in articulating personal goals for recovery Assists in obtaining services that suit that individuals' recovery needs by connecting persons to community resources and groups as appropriate Follow-ups on referrals to services (either directly or other referrals to appropriate services).
Coordinates information for MHSD walk-in appointments with participants Collects and maintains all participant data for monthly data reports; maintain documentation, submit required reports timely Participates in quarterly monitoring using the following methodologies:
conference calls, provider meetings Meets regularly with the Project Manager and the MHSD assigned Peer Advisor.
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Must have a minimum of a High School diploma or a GED Hold certification as a Peer Support Specialist, and have taken the necessary training Must be at least 18 years of age Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation and fingerprinting Must have at least twelve (12) months of continuous, demonstrated recovery as indicated by SAMHSA's working definition of recovery Must have lived experience with a behavioral health diagnosis (behavioral health diagnosis can include a diagnosis with mental health challenges, addiction challenges, or co-occurring disorders) Must be comfortable working inside the jail Motivational Interviewer Effective communicator and motivator Must possess strong people and customer service skills Must be very organized in order to guide participants through their individualized plans and to maintain participant documentation.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
