Overview:
We are currently seeking a Machinist at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration''s (NASA) Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) in New Orleans. MAF is a world-class manufacturing facility providing vital support to NASA''s space flight missions. MAF is also a multi-tenant facility that includes NASA, other government agencies, and commercial tenants. This position will work in a collaborative team environment and perform a wide variety of duties associated with the Machine Shop to ensure accuracy and completeness of requirements.
This is a Team MAFG position and may be filled by any of the Jacobs Teammate Companies (Jacobs, JIT, MTS, Qualis, or Geocent).
Responsibilities:
Maintain a Safe Work Environment. Operate multiple types of CNC Mills and/or Lathes. Make advanced setups with limited help. Manually program/edit at the control when needed. Analyze and inspect parts before and after machining.
Interpret and understand highly detailed drawings and sketches.
Perform complex machining operations in support of prototype and test development.
Operates various types of machine tools and perform progressive machining operations creating tooling components and assemblies with close tolerances requirements.
Set up and operate various manual mills and lathes when needed.
Fit and assemble parts when necessary, using machinists'' hand tools and measuring instruments.
Inspect parts and material prior to work performed and after completion to confirm it meets conformity requirements.
Has familiarity with working properties of various materials.
May manually program CNC machines in the course of making parts.
Interpret and follow verbal and written instructions, schedules, and documents.
Perform all work in accordance with established standards and safety procedures.
Responsible for ensuring proper documentation is entered on manufacturing planning and paperless timecard system.
May train basic operations or processes to others.
Qualifications:
Completion of 2 year Machinist Apprenticeship or 4 years relevant machine shop experience.
Must have good communication skills and the abilities to read and understand router operations, blueprints, and specifications as necessary to perform the job function.
Basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;).
Understand proper setup and use of tooling associated with machines.
Requires familiarity with machine tools and precision instruments.
Must perform shop mathematics associated with the machining trade.
Must have the ability to be certified to operate a fork lift and overhead crane.
Able to work Day shift and overtime when needed.
Able to pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
Physical Requirements:
Individual must wear OSHA approved safety glasses with side shields, hearing protections, and steel toe shoes. Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and kneeling. May require lifting and carrying of 50
lbs. Ability to push and/or pull on a wheeled devise up to 200 lbs. Must have visual and auditory acuity. Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of the machine shop.
Work Environment:
Work can involve being done inside or outside depending on task. Exposure to noise, dust, lubricants, heat and the elements.
Equipment and Machines:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.). Machine shop equipment including but not limited to lathes, mills, grinders, saws, and sheet metal forming tools, etc.
Attendance:
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must be able to travel when necessary to accommodate customer and program requirements. Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications where such certifications are a requirement of the job. For jobs requiring operation of motor vehicles, must maintain a valid driver''s license. Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
