International Banking Operations Associate

Summary:
To provide highest quality of service to every customer in the Hancock/Whitney Bank tradition of teamwork and customer satisfaction. Serves as specialist for the issuance and negotiation of Letter of Credit documents under import or exports letters of credit and process related payments and reimbursement claims. Processes incoming and outgoing documentary collections. Provide technical assistance and advice to customers of Whitney Bank/Hancock Bank and its domestic correspondents and officers on documentary collections and letter of credit issues.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Issuance, amendment, advising, confirmation and transfer import and/or export letters of credit and also assists beneficiaries in correcting discrepancies on documents presented under export leters of credit. Discusses with beneficiary any concerns they may have regarding the noted discrepancies.
Ensures that the letter of credit automated system charges the correct fees for issuing, advising, confirming, amending, negotiating, etc. lettes of credit
Sets up and maintains letter of credit files.
Assists Manager in maintaining and effecting payment under letters of credit secured by EXIM Bank program.
Issues and amends documentary collections
Creates trade acceptances on time documentary collections.
Pays documentary collections at sight, and if time, at maturity.
Sets up and maintains documentary collection files
Traces payment on unpaid collections via Swift and/or mail
Performs other duties as assigned by department manager.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of pertinent federal and international government regulations including BSA/AML, AND USA Patriot Act, the UCC and Anti-Boycott Regulations
Assists Applicants under Import Letters of Credit in completing the L/C Application
Serves as Consultant to Applicants and Beneficiaries of Letter of Credit with questions they have in completing their sale or purchase of products through Letters of Credit with foreign banks, and also guides them in filling out all fields pertinent to the Credit.
Incumbent is responsible for organizational integrity and business ethics as it relates to this position, and communicating this commitment to any applicable subordinates.
All other duties/special projects as assigned.
Minimum Required Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
High School degree or equivalent work experience
Working knowledge of basic accounting principles
Word processing/typing skills with a minimum of 40 words per minute
Up to five (5) years of commercial letter of credit experience
Up to five (5) years of documentary collections experience
Basic understanding of banking products and services
Detailed knowledge of the UCP600, Incoterms 2010, URR525 AND URC522 Regulations and other ICC publications and uniform rules.
Ability to discuss with applicant, freight forwarders, beneficiaries and other banks any letter of credit questions or issues, including discrepancies.
Bilingual(Spanish/English) preferred. Others, a plus. Not a requirement
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Personal computer skills required
Working knowledge of word, excel and outlook
Strong interpersonal skills
Autonomous decision maker.

Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
Ability to operate a keyboard if required to perform the essential job functions
Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions
Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions
Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 30 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an undue hardship then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
